My 98 S70 would die as if someone turned off the ignition key only to restart after few minutes of wait. It eventually would not run at all. The car has a good battery power, and you would hear the engine turn but it seem that it is not getting enough fuel to continue running. It eventually would not run at all. The schreader valve at the end of the fuel rail would only squirt a small amount of fuel when you depress the valve so I replaced the fuel pump, fuel pump relay, and fuel pressure regulator thinking this would help. I initially did not even get an Check Engine light error code. Only after repeated starting and testing that finally a code appeared.

Finally replacing the Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor did the trick. Do a backprobe of the connector to the MAF sensor while the ignition key is on (engine off). The Chilton book goes into detail how to test the MAF. Apparently, to my assesment, the MAF signals the ECU (car computer) and only if it is functioning, the ECU will send the proper electrical signal for the fuel pump to operate.

Good luck! I hope this helps.
