If you don't mind N/A, that '95 looks great. Lots of positives... manual, low mileage, cheap, 2 owners, leather... great car!

Yeah, the 95 is a non-turbo but could be fun as a manual. The 99 is probably a non-turbo but I can't tell from the ad.

I wouldn't bother with AWD but that is something of a personal preference, you might want to hear from people who have it.

I haven't heard much good about the transmissions on the 2001/2003. Maybe there is a fix and they are good, but you see a lot of them for sale at cheap prices. I think for a reason.
I was looking at a 2004 V70, but again I read about the heating up of the computer in the drivers area and causing all kinds of problems.
When my '98 started going south, I looked into a lot of cars. Again, the 2006 V70 2.5T I have has been great, but only 120,000 on it right now.
The AWD are usually a hit and miss from the stories about the rear prop.

I personally like the 98-00 S/V70s. My current V70 XC is near 180K and I bought it with 89K. I think the major issues I have gone through are common, but not deal breakers. I had issues with angle gear and had rear prop removed. Since running FWD for the past 3 or so years, I cannot say I miss the AWD. I also had to replace the fuel pump and on the AWD versions, it is NOT a 30 minute swap. Alternator, and ebrake replacement were big ticket items. I have thoroughly employed my V70 for all it's worth in my eyes. Hauling firewood, trips to the beach, it is my covered pick up truck.

At this point I am picky about what I would seek out, based on forum knowledge and abilities to repair certain things. I would find a FWD S/V70 that has been maintained to a certain degree.

I had an 04 V70 and like the performance but it had so many odd electrical quirks that I got rid of it before things got out of hand.

https://allentown.craigslist.org/cto/5205626711.html - interesting price, looks a bit beat, and based on volvo tags where side markers are, I think it is a 98 - extensive review needed

Eschew the AWD for a set of four snows on steel rims. The FWD cars with four snows are awesome, especially with a stick.

Got the official word that the 98 V70 T5 is a total loss. Their initial offer was $2700, I guess that's the value they compared the cost of repair to. I'll get an official offer Monday but at least I know what the floor is. I have my receipts from the brake job, engine tune up, and other small things I've done over the last 6 months which the adjust said will increase the offer. I think the fact that there isn't another T5 within 1000 miles should help me get a little more. There is a 98 V70-R in Philly, 100 miles away, for $3900. Other than that I need to go to Detroit or North Carolina. Even KBB says a good condition T5 from a dealer should be around 3800.

Remember you negotiate the settlement up, get and cash the check, then negotiate the buyback down.

I feel your pain. My son wrecked our '98 V70 T5 a couple of months ago. Bent subframe made it too expensive to fix so I've kept it as a parts car and bought a '98 S70 GLT. Needs a few things, including steering rack, but the parts are now cheap!

And, whenever I need one of those little parts that are a pain to find I can just pull it off the parts car. Many of the parts car front end parts are fairly new, even.

We owned the '98 V70 for about 3 years and, once we took care of the deferred maintenance, it was a good, safe, relatively inexpensive car to own.

The insurance initial offer came in at $2700 but they were comparing my V70 T5 to base S70 or S70 GLTs. I'm hoping to get the settlement offer up but I'm not too hopeful. After my deductible it looks like my budget is 2300-2500.

I guess it comes down to a 95 850 GLT w/ 125,000 miles and a stick or a few 98-2000 S70s between $1900 (143K miles) and $2200 (T5 220K miles, timing belt just replaced).

My wife threw out an idea of a minivan which I threw right back at her, the wagon is as close to a minivan as I'm willing to go.

And that quickly everything changes. The other driver's insurance picked up 100% liability, will pay for my rental car for 10 days, replace the kids seats, and are giving me $3600 for the car. My budget just increased
