Drat - it's out of stock at NAPA. I will it off Amazon, no big deal.
Just would like to know what others think on 90 degree elbow?

Also, if I don't pinch the hoses or drain the coolant - how much will flow out? Can I just catch it in a milk jug? Will any flow out of the right side hose (passenger side) since I am assuming if I drain the driver's side hose - then the heater core loop should be in theory out of coolant?

Maybe you can fit one of those square dish washing pans (size that fits in kitchen sink) under the valve to drain the heater core and hoses.

Sweet. Thats what I am going to do. Now need to get that 90 degree hose and a brass fitment so that I can get everything in the car once the rain stops.

Yeah, thunderstorms yesterday - and its drizzling & foggy today. Waiting for ground to dry up.

In the meantime, I plan to go to Advance auto and ask them for a 90 coolant hose and a brass fitting...

Done!! It was definitely the heater control valve.

So I got the Four Seasons 74828 heater control valve, a 5/8" ID coolant hose and a straight brass fitting from Advance Auto. Took me about 2 hours to get it in. Need to put back the carpeting and seats and such...overall very satisfied and it is a lot more sturdier than the plastic valve that was in there.

Pictures and part numbers to follow in the next couple of days....

As mentioned,

Here are some pictures of the new set up. Quite pleased with it. No leaks and I managed to have full adjustment sweep on the slider.
The slider cable was bear though to twist and put in a loop around the valve.

Parts list:
1. Heater control valve: Four Seasons Valve 74828 ($15.04 on Amazon)
2. Heater Hose connection - brass fitting: DA 19590178 ($2.99 at Advance Auto)
3. Heater hose molded: p/n#5197066 from Dayco ($11.09 at Advance Auto)
4. Hose clamps - 2 nos : ATO 5600456 ($2.49 at Advance Auto)

Total parts cost: $31.61
Total hours: 2.5 hours. Could probably have been done a little quicker...
