The junk yards are not a bad idea...If there's a Pull-a-part near you, you might consider going and seeing what's available off of some Volvo's there. Most if not all P80 and P2's share the same wheel configuration. Unless they have pulled a set of 4 pristine wheels, they don't charge much for these.

They are $20 each at the local PullAPart plus a $15 core charge which I think you get back if you trade in your original within 30 days.
Les is more.

Sorry if I jumped on you.

It's a pet peeve of mine.

" my car is worth 2000 so I don't want to spend 500 for a repair"

That's fine. No one wants to spend anything they don't have to.

I don't want to spend 500 to repair on a 500 worth car because it doesn't make sense.

False! The value of the car has no bearing on the value of the repair. If you can get 10x more miles than the dollar value of the repair, it makes sense.

Well I agree to a point. My job for almost 15 years was deciding what repairs on a fleet of airplanes (hundreds of aircraft) was worth the money spent. Not every repair is worthy. The wheels are on the border of justified. I can slow down just a little and I'm OK. I'd rather repair it but 500 to 600 dollars is too much. I'm saving to buy a new $42000 pickup truck in two years. Every dollar I spend on the volvo delays that purchase.

I agree to a point, but if the Volvo is derivable while still repairing it, it keeps you from having to spend $ on another car (such as a payment) while you're saving up for the expensivo vehicle. Kapish? So, in this day an age, many of us try to get to much out of everything and maybe our expectations aren't really very realistic. I for one am that way...I always look for the easy and cheaper way. Sometimes this pays off but sometimes it's only a few bucks and the time I spent (time is money as they say) on saving a few bucks, I could have been on to other things that were more meaningful....

The Volvo is safely drivable WITHOUT repairing it. That's the point. I am am picky about the ride. It would be nice to have a smooth ride at 70 mph but it's not necessary. 70 mph exceeds the speed limit by a good bit in Atlanta but it happens to be the speed traffic goes here when it isn't stopped. I tend to be willing to spend less money on nice to have items as compared to must have items. The post was about possible inexpensive ways to address my wheel wobble at high speeds. It was not about the question of whether I should repair the car or not. It's a minor driveabilty item that happens to bother me.

I get that- sorry for butting in... I do hope that you can reach a good compromise and find some inexpensive wheels to make the ride more comfortable (and less annoying) while at the same time not breaking the bank. Did any of the ideas in this thread seem to be something that might work?

Threads take on their own lives. I should have picked a better subject title. I always appreciate the effort people make to comment but sometimes the comments get off track.

I suspect that I'm not the typical volvo owner on this site. I dont really love my 98 V70. I have it as a matter of necessity. Lately I don't even like it because working on it dominates my weekends. I don't particularly like working on it.

With the exception of the control arms everything that wears out in the front suspension and steering has been replaced with OE or better parts. It still dances down the road above 65 mph. The alignment I need now may help with that - I don't know. I need 4 new tires and that also may help, but I hate to put them on what are probably bent wheels. I dont know how to address the wheel issue short of buying new wheels or good used ones. How to get a used wheel that isn't bent is what I really want to know. Also a cheap source of new steel wheels was the other option I was considering, I've learned through my own research that new steel wheels are expensive.

I think your best sure fire way is cheap alloys at Tire rack for 360 for 4, then sell your existing ones as OK below 70 mph, then wobble and try to get 150 back.

As abscate said! Or, get some steelies from a pick-n-pull (like Pull-A-Part)...they often have steal wheels in a bin. Choose the straightest ones. You can have an tire place check them afterwards to make sure they are true. Bent steal is easily repairable- hardly anyone repairs alum alloy wheels anymore.
