Removed the relay, tapped the red casing generously.
Installed it is back together, started!
Is the relay on last leg --- I don not have a record of it being replaced in past 9+ years?
Replace --$47 at local Volvo?

If you have a PnP nearby I'd pull a couple of spares, test them in your car and keep one in the glove box with a Torx tool to remove cover should it fail again.

I made a jumper wire as in the photo above.
It has spade terminals and inline fuse (IIRC it is a 15A fuse, blue color).
I always keep this jumper wire (together with Torx keys) in the glove box.
This jumper wire is more fool-proof (never fails!) than a spare used relay (you simply don't know when the relay goes south).

Just had a fuel pump do this to me over summer, would go for hours then make a quick stop and no restart for hours

After replacing my fuel pump during the summer with a new assembly it died already. From day 1 it was very loud, you could hear it running all the time. Luckily I purchased it from FCP and they took care of the issue. It was a Proparts Sweden FP assembly and FCP actually is getting rid of that particular part from there site. Anyway I got the real McCoy, Genuine Volvo FP assembly.

Particularly on an AWD I know they are really expensive, but OE for me is he way to go unless you are wanting to cut hole in your floor. The huge amount of work involved it makes sense. Good luck 2nd time around!

Yeah i wasn't happy about it after I finished install first time, I couldn't believe how loud it was. I knew it was faulty after testing it. I ran it until it died, I had the Volvo pump in it's blue box waiting at home already for the day the ProParts Sweden pump died. 6 months .
