The best approach is to find OEM caliper at junk yard or used on ebay.
The only thing you care is the piston, just make sure the piston is shinny and not corroded.
Then buy the FTE rebuild kit (seal + boot) at rmeuropean dot com and rebuild the caliper yourself (I posted info in forum in the DIY hydraulic overhaul).

I think rmeuropean dot com also sells the bushing etc. (But the junak yard caliper should come with bushing).
Thanks but not at all helpful to me. That's the point of this website, right?

What I am saying is: Cardone is probably OK, but the quality of their rebuild is subpar. Bushing is loose, pins loose, and my guess is the seal and boot are probably from China, not necessarily a bad thing, but I personally prefer FTE seal + boot.

If Cardone comes to Volvo mfg and proposes to supply brake calipers for brand-new Volvo cars, my guess is that Volvo will reject it b/c Cardone is not up to spec's.

So, if you want OEM quality, rebuild it using FTE seal + boot.

I asked for comments BEFORE I bought and put them on the car a month after the fact doesn't help at all. My point.

You need to push a whole bottle of brake fluid through the system every two years or your calipers won't be rebuildsble in the Rust belt

Don't live in the rust belt or even close. Have done that anyway. Thanks.

Just pushed a full quart through, this weekend. My calipers' prospects are improving!

I might just return these and rebuild, I don't feel safe with the Cardone's.
The FRONT brakes have worked fine on this car - always.
I'll stop in at FCP and see what they think about them.

I installed Cardone rebuilt calipers on all 4 corners a year ago on my XC and they are still working just fine.

However, I have to admit that I was a little skeptical before I bought them.

Fun to watch opinion careen all over the place ... I'm not sure if this is a joke or what. You don't feel safe with them?

Note that FCP sells only two brands of caliper for the P80: Genuine Volvo and Cardone. I don't think they are going to tell you the Cardones are unsafe.

Oh I get it now, CARDONEs (Certain And Ravaged Death On Nearly Every stop) !!!

Yeah, opinion will probably be all over the map. I essentially rebuilt the rebuilts and now have nice clean powder coated OE quality calipers for only a few dollars more than going to the trouble and mess that goes with a junkyard visit to get cores.
