2001 V70 Turbo and limp mode? (Loose hose) Topic is solved

When my turbo broke there was a noise, I tracked it down by putting my hand on the turbo (cold engine) and I could feel it was the source without any doubt. It was blowing blue and white smoke and looking up from beneath I could see oil at the downpipe seam gasket. I didn't drive it, no need , it was obvious.

I'm thinking and hoping that in my case it isn't a bad turbo. In your case, simply unplugging the MAF would not have made the smoke go away, but in my case it did.

I don't know if that totally rules out a bad turbo in my case, but in my mind, I think it does.

I Replaced the tcv with a spare on hand and it didn't really change much. I unplugged the battery for about 20 minutes total and plugged up the MAF before the battery. The check engine light was off and the engine system service required message was gone. Engine system service urgent was still there.

Still in limp mode.

I suppose my spare could also be bad, but I don't think so.

Thoughts appreciated.

Well now that it's all over, I feel kinda stupid.

I don't know how I missed it the first 57 times, but the hose popped off the throttle body. In my defense I suspected one off them immediately, and gave them all a firm shake. It didn't move very much. But this morning I was looking at the car, and reached for something else and saw it move. I put it back on and it runs perfect.

The engine system service urgent message is still there though. I'll pull the battery again and see if it goes away.

If you leave the ETM hose half screwed on with a dime sized air leak you can produce an excellent turbo blow off valve sound just like the young guys have. It won't code (well only P0171) and it sounds great!!
