2005 XC70 engine just got a whole lot louder

If you go stainless on the bolts/nuts, they are a lot easier to grind off when seized....much softer. Plenty strong enough for the application. I use junk SS from Lowes for this.

Junk chinese SS is not bad at grinding indeed. On the other side, real SS is in theory quite harder than regular steel

You don't want stainless. You want the bolts to rust instead of the exhaust.

The same applies for that little bolt on the inside of every door that's always rusted.

Ive gotten so used to grinding cheap stainless I had forgotten this, and you are absolutely right.
