I used Mothers Back to Black, bought at Autozone for about $5. Worked very well. Specifically made for this purpose.
What I like most is that it's a clear-ish fluid, not a black dye or cover-up.

Another product you may want to use is Westleys tire dressing. I use this product on my 2002 XC black bumpers. It does restore them to their original color and gives them some what of a shine. this product is pretty water resistant but does wash off over time. I just take a rag and spray the dressing into it then wipe it on. Sometimes depending on how faded they are you need reapply.

I'm using canola oil on my brown trim and its works a treat. Seems to hold up pretty well in all the rain and salt air we get.
