Personally I believe a decent base oil is more important than extra additives. And if I wanted to spend more I'd shorten the OCI a bit. I'm doing 10' km on my car and the oil always still has a nice smooth feel to it even though it's not very pretty by then.

The appearance of oil just doesn’t mean much. Fine particles of carbon much smaller than the bearing passages aren’t damaging, but make the oil black earlier.

My Blackstone analysis on 7500 mile (12000 km) interval shows Mobil 1 High mileage ( non-pure US synthetic) is like new on my P2, T4, and BMW so I use that as the OCI on those cars.

I'm mostly just always fascinated how the oil can look pretty clean on the dipstick then what comes out the bottom looks more like tar, with the soot floating around the bottom getting washed out as well :-)

I own a 2004 V70 260k miles and a 2004 XC70 with 130k miles. They are now nearly 20 years old and both very reliable vehicles. I have had the V70 for 15 years. Neither car has ever left me stranded by a breakdown. I regularly maintain the vehicles and change the oil every 5-7k miles. No rust. For the most part pretty easy to work on (except steering rack and some EVAP components). FCP Euro and IPD provide ready access to quality parts and there is so much support on the internet forums and youtube I have been able to do all the work myself. I expect to get at least 300k out of these cars. Finally, even at their advanced age the materials, fit and finish are astounding. While my 1999 Mercedes e320 (230k mi) plastics are literally dissolving inside and out the Volvo's metal, fabric, leather and plastics all remain in excellent condition. :D
