I'm doing a seeping PS pump and the water pump and thermostat and a bunch of hoses on my '08, just happen to have it opened up today so can give you an idea where the starter is at.
This is an interesting motor with the input path for cooling (reverse cooled) mounted externally, ending up with two chunks of hardware, one with interconnects and one without, to mate with the heads. The short thick hose connects them together. I think the "housing" on the other side of that hose is over one of the starter bolts but I'm not sure to what degree. ** See video 3:27, part comes off. Gasket PN 30720318.
I'm keen to have someone who's done this job to personally chime in since I suspect more folks will be doing them (maybe even me) over the years to come. I'm sure you can get to it, as others have said it's just a matter of what comes off.
edit 071519. Thanks Mass for the video, this one notes the part comes off the rear head to get to the bolts.

I wanted to pull the upper manifold and remove the rear bank housing to replace the short hose, can see the starter attachment point.
