Re: V70 , 2000 Automatic transmission fluid change
It doesn't help that my 2000 V70 manual has a typo listing the transmission as "AW 50-50 LE". I looked pretty hard for fluid compatible with that incorrect part name. In fact, the 2000 V70 has the AW55-50 LE 5-speed automatic. As everyone says, it requires JWS 3309 fluid (also known as T-IV), sold as Volvo part number 1161540.

To really muck things up, Allison TranSynd is also potentially compatible, as is DelVac Syn ATF for the 99's, and very likely the early 2000's.
Frankly TranSynd was used in garbage trucks in NYC for testing by Allison, not a single failure for 100,000+ miles per truck. It has no replacement interval in that application, mere testing to verify it hasn't been contaminated. If you switch to it I'd suggest installing an inline "polishing" filter similar to what Allison does on their transmissions. Then test it every year or so. Frankly I'd visually check for obvious contamination every oil change. My next fill will be TranSynd, economy allowing...
I agree with others on changing the fluid. VW used to say their transmissions had lifetime fill. They aren't lying, it will work right up until your transmission eats the friction material right off the clutch packs, at that point the transmission has no life left. ~$3-5k+ for a transmission or ~$80 for fluid every other year, the choice is ours.
