I still hate the switch blade keys! I dislike the newer keyless fobs more though. 04 must have been the year for the changeover if that S60 had them too. Although they are obnoxiously awkward the amazing thing is both still have working buttons! The weak point is the switch blade feature. Never put these type keys on a keychain as the attachment point can break off. Hence the key can fall off the chain potentially losing your key. I am assuming from 04 on Volvo went with the single unit to keep up with consumer demand for something more modern and one instead of two items on a key chain.June wrote: ↑25 Apr 2020, 18:27Is that from the dealer or a locksmith? Does your 03 have the awful switchblade ke like my 04, or the traditional Volvo key with the remote as a fob like my 02 had? I dislike the 04 switchblade keys. The dealer said they could not make me a key, and fob like the 02. Both switchblade pop out keys have been broken for years, but both keys still have working keyless buttons. I didn't like folding the key in so left them out and consequently one is stuck out, and the other flops around. For the price you are quoted, I would replace both of mine. My understanding was Volvo wants $400 each complete! June

No winning comb with the keys though I've not had trouble with our 03 Odyssey separate key and remote. Kind of bulletproof with easy DYI programming, $10 for a used one with a new case delivered. Just a good as new. Our 08 C30 T5 has the big plastic insert key. Have 3 and only 1 of the remote works so I have to remove the small key stored in the remote to open the door each time.June wrote: ↑25 Jul 2020, 17:29I still hate the switch blade keys! From what I can tell 04 was the change over to the switch blade setup and perhaps 08 to the large plastic dash insert unit.
