Well as promised, I've attached the image of the brake tool I made to compress the rear brake cylinders on my S40. The T-bar is from a garbage disposal tool, where I unscrewed the piece that you'd insert into the garbage disposal. The mending plate (door hindge may work also) is convenient because if selected properly, it should have the correct diameter hole in it already. You'll need to modify the plate/hinge, but that is really easy to do with a vice, hack saw, metal file and Dremel tool.

I had lots of trouble with ImageShack (admittedly mine probably) so I hope the image below is accessable to all. If not , let me know and I'll try again.

Also, an email from a member of another forum yielded an additional link. It shows the use of the "official" Volvo tool. Good if for nothing else than the excellent images of the brakes and details about their replacment.

Enjoy!!!

Let's try that picture posting again. Perhaps one of the following will work:

Amazing how 'special tools' can be made at home. This is very similar to the tool used by my Volvo tech friend before he acquired the proper one. The only real difference is that his was made from a flat metal bar.

Glad it's all OK now.
