Use the wiring diagram to feed the fan 12 VDC directly to test

I did some careful poking with an old windshield wiper blade, and the motor is tight. I can turn the fan blades but not as easily as I'd expect. I'm thinking deceased fan motor at this point. Thoughts?
mine spins easily.

Thanks Abscate! That was just what I did yesterday.

Here's what I found:
--- 12.68v at the fan connector, so it is getting power
--- IF I apply battery voltage to the fan turns it on, though it seems slow to get to speed.
---- I grounded the fan controller wire and fan did NOT turn on. According to the Internet, which is never wrong :-D :-D Grounding the
controller should be the equavalent of a full-power ON signal to the fan, right?

Anybody know if #3 up there is in fact correct? I know the EEC-IV computer activates its solenoids, that way.

Thanks,
Bert

did you unplug the fan or back probe,?
It could just be green corrosion in the socket .

Key on and grounding each of the two signals on the controller should turn them on, but you need the plug pulled to do this and the reconnect power somehow, if it’s a single plug.

Fan should come up to speed in a second or two.

Tyc fan with controller is about $200. SKU: TYC-30680547

Junkyard alternative about $35 plus trip, 2001 2002 2003 part

Thanks! Conveniently it's one of the 2-plug fans instead of the single plug, so power plus grounding is easy

One question- why key on? The power plug has 12v when the key is off. I ran out and tested it key on, and then started wondering.

BTW, the TYC fan is ~$116 at Rockauto.
FCP Euro is awesome for finding what years fit what. I'm surprised that they want so much more than Rock for the same fan. Usually their prices are more competitive.

My thought, FWIW is to get a new one. This is my daughter's car (thus the screen name) and she's going to take it to college at some point.Assuming something catastrophic doesn't happen to it first. At which point it is going to be a collection of excellent finds in the junkyard, or on here, sadly.

Best,
Bert

FCP one comes with controller, probably the difference

For the unplugged fan, correct, the ignition key position doesn’t matter

I hope it does. If not, I'm going to be ticked, because it clearly states in the description that it does come with controller. I'll let you know Thurs or Fri, when it arrives.
