It's a 2004. Just worried about repairing the belt only to have further costs.
Steering column leaks power steering fluid.
Oil was leaking a lot though that could be the timing belt.
Will have a look today

Doh'! SuperHerman is correct, the belt needs to be intact for the turning-over test to work.SuperHerman wrote: ↑17 Aug 2020, 23:41 Almost always a broken timing belt equates to bent valves as it is an interference engine - the easiest way to find out is to put a new timing belt on and see what happens when an attempt to turn by hand is tried. After that a leak down test and/or compression test will tell you all you need to know.

With the plugs out there is no compression, so generally speaking all engines are easier to turn by hand (preferred method to align the timing marks). With the spark plugs installed, bent valves will cause zero or low compression in their cylinder so the engine will crank faster if the belt is still in place (not a really safe way to test, though)

Perhaps the kind of situation to remember us that we should not expect even good aftermarket water pumps to last the 'normal' belt replacement interval. I know most people keep their original pump, unfortunately there are garages that replace the pump at the first belt and the owner keeps in mind the next belt change will be in 100k miles or so (some years even more) but perhaps even the best aftermarket pumps other than Aisin don't last that long. I even wonder if the Aisin one is the exact copy of the original genuine one, I talk in one of my videos saying that not all aftermarket parts made by the companies who make the genuine ones for Volvo, are necessarily made to the same standards as the genuine parts. Sachs shock absorbers are such example, perhaps SKF wheel bearings is another one

Correct
We make a metric ton of assumptions about supply chain business
Volvo pump has Aisin label on it
Aisin brand pump has Volvo mark scratched off
Therefore, the Aisin pump is identical to Volvo.
This is not logically sound. There could be yielding, testing , who knows what about how those are chosen or made

Can we assume Volvo spot-/random-bench-tests water pumps and other 3rd party components at the factory?
If so, we can assume there is no equivalent testing for units that go to the retail chain.
Therefore, the producer of say water pumps has a motive to send the best units -- based on their production lot testing -- to Volvo, not to the retail chain. They do not want to get dropped by an OEM.
Sound or unsound conclusion?

That may be another factor indeed. I'm not sure if it would apply to all types of parts, but I know for sure I was buying Monroe shock absorbers (new) at suspiciously low price, and one was already busted - which made me think that amazon seller was actually selling the parts rejected off the production line after failing quality check. Pretty sure for many parts there are such quality test rejects that end being sold somewhere instead of being trashed. That's pretty much the case in electronics (chips, memory sticks, etc)

Years ago I saw (and bought some) a large number of small punches and chisels at a swap meet or flea market. These tools had grinding marks on the side. By comparing several of the punches, you could see that they were Craftsman brand. This was back when Craftsman was good products. My guess was someone in the Sears/Craftsman supply chain had rejected a batch of tools and they did not get destroyed, but had the brand removed and were sold through the cash and carry, no promises system.
I never found the tools damaged or weak. Maybe it was a visual flaw.

I suspect a lot of rejected oxygen sensors get sold on amazon and eBay.
