Easy get, the body is gone and it's sitting on the subframe outside my shop door where the air line will reach. I drove it here, but it didn't run all that well. Condition-wise it's a rebuilder in my opinion, but hey, the price is right.
Okay Greg you talked me into it. Twist my arm why don't you! I'll have to figure out a way to come pick it up. What do you think the best way to haul an engine is? Maybe break it down first? Gotta fit it in the back of the 850 sedan.

Erik and FLX, I agree. A direct easy swap is the smartest. I'll run Greg's 96 engine, and use the 96 intake manifold, lose the VVIS (which is fine by me). Then I can either overhaul the whole 96 block while it's out of the car (rebuilt head, new head gaskets, new oil pan pickup seals and clean the frick out of the block and pcv passages, check the rings for wear etc), or just rebuild the 96 head and put it on the 94/96 short block.

Compression on the 94/95 block is around 170 on all cylinders IIRC. Block has almost 250k miles. I know the bottom ends go forever.

Two final thoughts, 1: I'd hate to swap the head and have the bottom end go. Then have to redo all that work.

2: I'd hate to spend all that money for no reason. Hahahahaha.

Okay. Time for more coffee. Thanks for the replies everyone. This is why I love this community so much. :D

My 99 NA doesn't have VVT, but it could be a chasis break thing. I think someone mentioned some 99 NA's have one vvt

Zap it apart with my impact and haul the pieces home. I need the trans, flywheel and subframe. Everything else is just in my way. If I were you I would try to just use the head. These lower ends usually hold up.

No VVT on the NA until 2000, which got intake

Turbo 1999 got exhaust VVT.

I’ve got 4 1999s in the fleet now!

Honestly based on how the p80 community talks about 99's you're breaking down boundaries Steve. Inspirational stuff!
