Some more books I enjoyed: These are not books you are likely to read in one sitting. They are long and detailed, but very interesting (at least to me).
"Midnight in Chernobyl" is The Untold Story of the World's Greatest Nuclear Disaster by Adam Higginbotham. It is very detailed and includes photos of the people involved and some of the power plant.
"Area 51" is An uncensored History of America's Top Secret Military Base by Annie Jacobsen. Based on interviews by the author and may or may not be totally believable.
"Operation Paperclip" is The Secret Intelligence Program that brought Nazi scientists to America by Annie Jacobsen. After WWII, the US and other countries sought to obtain the Nazi experts from Germany. We got some bad apples with the basket.
"The Candy Bombers" is The Untold Story of the Berlin Airlift and America's finest hour by Andrei Cherny. While flying coal and food to Berlin during the Russian blockade, some of the pilots dropped candy outside of the airports.
"Flying High" is The Story of Boeing and the rise of the Jetliner Industry by Eugene Rodgers. The history of Boeing from the 1920's to the early 1990's with lots of detail.

Relating to health:
Michael Pollans' books are all good reads. " Omnivore's Dilemma " is probably his best known, and although I think when it came to hunting wild game he had a terrible teacher, the book is spot on in all other respects. " Cooked " is another good one of his that focuses on food and health.

I read The Andromeda Strain when I was in high school. It is a a very gripping story. Especially as a young person.

Yes, the book is interesting. It is not long. Science fiction is the genre.
I am no expert, but I have read that the way to get good at writing (or anything) is to practice and observe. In the case of writing, you can improve by reading other good writing. It can also improve your vocabulary.
Also, I old boss of mine gave me good advice. If the writing is important, never send it the same day. Wait until the next day and proof read it again. You can often avoid mistakes this way.
If you like The Andromeda Strain, I can recommend other similar books.
