City driving on my 2 NA's was around 25 mpg for the 93 850 GLT (auto) and 27 with the 00 V70 NA (5 speed auto).
Highway without trying too hard could be as high as 34 in the 850 and my buddy who now has the 00 V70 NA achieved about the same travelling over 80 mph.
So they can do well even on auto's when well maintained and not driven with a lead foot.
Neil.

I have a 2.0 20V auto wagon and in mixed driving it never gets better than 22 mpg and i drive carefully. In the city it's probably around 20 mpg. My car is also well maintained and in decent condition. I really need to know how to get 25 mpg in town lol.scot850 wrote: ↑17 Apr 2021, 13:10 City driving on my 2 NA's was around 25 mpg for the 93 850 GLT (auto) and 27 with the 00 V70 NA (5 speed auto).

You'll never get 25 mpg in town, in my experience. Lucky to get 20!

I used to get so so mileage, but i installed the trip computer and am a lot more aware of how many fuel wasters are out there. There are some 2 minute stoplights in my area so putting it in neutral and turning off the car seems to help a lot. I keep it around 100-105 km/h on the highway and am able to get around 7.7 -8 if i am feeling like a real fuel economy machine. I had another v70 before this, same year, colour, made months apart that had 1-2 neglected oil changes (funny how i used to be afraid to do them) that would get terrible mileage.
I do not do a lot of long distance driving at the moment but getting an engine that was well maintained and having proper suspension and alignment seems to help a lot.

On my 99 NA s70 manual trans the trip computer shows my average at around 24.5 for the last couple months with mixed driving, we live in a city but it gets 2-3 highway trips a week to the Boston area. I've averaged 31 mpg highway when I reset the computer after getting on the highway to nyc once so it's doable, but now it has a roof rack with 2 bike carriers on it which seems to drop 2-3 highway mpg. Providence and Boston aren't conducive to slow acceleration driving so I've averaged as low as 20-21 for city/suburbs driving. I run 89 octane, switch between winter tires/all seasons and the car is in good mechanical condition with no CEL.
I would agree with the sentiment that the NA engine is nice, especially with a manual. I suppose its all about perspective but compared to my 98hp Ranger it feels like a sports car
