wheel balance and alignment is all.
They did a courtesy inspection and made my slight exhaust leak very loud, how courteous of them.
The courtesy estimate for front brake hoses, drop links and windshield wipers was $500.
They didn't include a cost estimate for the exhaust system.
Already had all the parts on hand so it cost me nothing , exhaust took a while to find the right style clamp but its fixed.
oh yeh, and I ruined my 2 yr old radiator , forgot my jack was still under the front subframe and caught it when I reversed out of the garage, another $225. But that would have been $600 in a shop.
I do it because I can't afford to pay them, they deserve what they charge but if you don't have money to throw away... you can do it.
When did you last have paid service for your Volvo

I got so backed up with car work this summer I took Shagg in for annual inspection and had them do front rotors and pads. Not too bad, $160 in labor. Got old parts back. They left one side lug nuts loose. Lost one, no damage done.

I don't trust mechanics in general. Last time was 1.5 years ago, timing belt for the 03 Odyssey as my health at the time would not allow it. A bolt was found on the ground after getting it home. Still, glad I turned it over as the TB was hanging by a thread. Prior to that was a headgasket on a 95 Plymouth Grand Voyager in 2004, if I remember correctly.
So far none for the Volvos have gone to a shop but the 98 S70 T5 was donated after it blew a seal somewhere that caused a catastrophic oil leak after excercising the turbo. The other 03 S80 T6 sits with a transmission out. Otherwise, thank the Lord I've been able to tackle everything with what limited abilities I've been blessed with.
Last but not least MVS gets a bulk of the credit!

Our 06 XC70 has been almost always serviced at the dealer. We have owned the car since 2011 when bought from the dealer. I have done some work on the car from time-to-time but not a whole lot. I have done the cabin fan and front suspension work as well as fixing the back-up sensors, polished the headlights, replaced the exploded headlight washer pump.
We just had the last service done there about 3 weeks ago, and tomorrow it goes in for a preventative fix for the parking brakes using the Skandix parking brake shoe pivot replacing the corroded junk on the OE aluminum rear hubs. Who ever though putting steel and aluminum in direct contact where salt and de-icing agent are used for 6 months of the year should be shot! My friends son's 06 S60 AWD had the parking brake shoes come of the remaining aluminum pivot point and exploded the rear hub. $1500 repair to fix both sides and not at a dealer!

I used to dread exhaust work enough to take that in, but wizechatmgr put me onto the wonders of grinders and cut off discs, Firefox onto bear River converters, so now I cut metal and build pipes with band dlamps and do my own 3-5 year exhaust fixes. Money saved is nice and I can do the fix in the same time it takes to drive and pick nose at the shop. Getting the car up nice and high helps

Those cutoff wheels also work well to hack off seized swaybar linkages that break two torx wrenches. Nuts come off easier when cut in half!

The last time I had regular service was about 5 months ago, and that was for an oil change while traveling over the road. I chose them based on a recommendation from a local at the motel I stayed at, and I was very satisfied.volvolugnut wrote: ↑19 Nov 2021, 08:27 When was the last time you had service at a mechanic and what did they do for you? I'll be pulling and welding the flex pipe this summer, first the garage floor has to go, just ordered a jack hammer to break it up.abscate wrote: ↑11 Jun 2023, 05:46 I used to dread exhaust work enough to take that in, but wizechatmgr put me onto the wonders of grinders and cut off discs, Firefox onto bear River converters, so now I cut metal and build pipes with band dlamps and do my own 3-5 year exhaust fixes. I've read a garage can add 20% to house value, I did the steel roof already so a new floor makes sense.
The money saved by DIY can buy a lot. I'm still thousands of dollars ahead.

I remember chiseling this stuff off in 20 minute sessions with a hammer, hitting your fingers every now and then.
Now it’s 30 seconds of Dremel ….fiberglass reinforced metal cutting disks

I took it to a specialty import shop to have the front struts/mounts done about 2 years ago.
That's all I can remember. She still runs like a champ. Gonna be a sad day when she falls apart.
