If you can keep in mind Force=Mass X Acceleration, you can predict the impact on gas mileage of your right foot. The force must be produced by the engine (unless you are going down hill) and requires fuel. More Mass or more Acceleration requires more fuel. At the same time, a cold engine requires more fuel to operate smoothly until it warms. Also, in cold weather, you are likely to use more auxiliary devices like heater fans, electric defrosters, and headlights. These all require force (fuel) to operate.

On our holiday 1700 mile trek, our XC wagon got 21 mpg at times, up to 27.
Mountain driving, several passes, high altitude plains, and very cold. For the most part driving quite fast, 80-85 mph (normal in Wyoming).
When we had to slow down for ice and a loose hood latch, averaging 60-65, we shot up to 27mpg. Dropping out of boost.
I took the bike racks off the roof to help some. We were heavily loaded plus 3 people.
