Re: Timing Belt Nightmare Continues
So, still this day, it continues. After yet another check, belt tighten, blah blah, the car starts and runs, and though the belt doesn't 'slither' anymore, it does find its way to the inner edge of the cam gears and when i shut the car off, the belt is hanging over about a finger nails width worth which is still too much for my comfortability. Im so lost....

Did you do water pump on this job? AISIN only for that part.
I think you have a bad VVT hub(s) ,.Is it hanging on both?

Unfortunately no. I had to settle for ID. Here's the link to the kit I bought.

yea. it "moves" the same amount on both pullies. The reason i say "moves" now instead of 'hangs off' is because i started it again today after tightening the belt a little more. It does ride to the edge but doesn't really 'hang off' anymore. Ran it for like 5 min just fine. Revs just fine. Im just nervous to take it out on the road. But honestly, im to the point where I might just say F it and take it for a spin and see what happens.
Also, do you think possibly after all this tinkering around with the belt and components that i may have possibly stretched the belt to a certain point where it's just constantly gonna remain somewhat loose? Or possibly even a stretch tensioner bolt not holding it 100% snug up to the block?

Putting in a bunch of aftermarket parts is the problem here. The solution is simple but painful

Don't feel badly, no face palm required, much of the market is set up to get us to buy cheaper, crap parts. Live and learn, just figure out how to pony up for the quality timing parts and move on. Hopefully (likely) that will solve the problem. Good news is you are capable of installing them, that saves a bucket of $$ right there.

Super appreciate the encouragement!! And yes, been working on vehicles all my life and the knowledge has saved me more $$ than imaginable. But the more and more these vehicles morph into computers the less confident I feel. Pretty soon here the term 'mechanics' is going to be replaced with 'computer programmer'.erikv11 wrote: ↑01 Feb 2022, 14:59 Don't feel badly, no face palm required, much of the market is set up to get us to buy cheaper, crap parts. UPDATE: Decided just to purchase a whole new timing kit and try again. I literally have the pay form on another window tab but before I do, can I just get any double reassurance that this is the 'quality correct' kit? https://www.fcpeuro.com/products/volvo- ... -306088003
