I just did this on my 2006 XC70, it had 178k on the PCV system. I didn't replace the complex coolant pipe but did replace the PCV nipple (https://www.fcpeuro.com/products/volvo- ... o-30731007) as is often recommended. BTW the plastic line for this did break when I removed the original as the previous poster commented.

Since the fuel rail has to come off, I replaced the fuel injector o-rings. I also replaced the dipstick block O-ring as it usually comes off when doing this job. And cleaned throttle body.

I had some other comments buried in the "What did you do" to your XC70 thread, which may be helpful.

Oh...I did have a minor issue with that 90 degree hose you commented on. But not sure it was a quality thing. When I secured it to the block with a clamp I was not able to screw the oil trap/box to the block. The 90 degree hose pulled the oil trap out of alignment just enough to not allow the screw/bolt to thread in. I had to unclamp the hose and screw oil trap first, then clamp 90 degree hose.

Also, my glove test wasn't dramatic even with 178K. No real inflation but also no negative pressure. Got suspicious when I saw a small bit of vapor coming from dipstick on inspection

My car also passed the glove test, but many months later I discovered the PO took out an exhaust cam seal to alleviate pressure. If your car is dumping oil, there's always a chance your PO took similar measures to avoid PCV work, leaving you chasing red herrings for months.

When I replaced my PCV, the "nipple" was only partially blocked, but the oil pan's vent chimney was near 100% blockage. Make sure to blow some air into that hole before buttoning up. If it's clogged, you'll have to take a day to drop your oil pan, but at least you won't blow your main seal thinking your PCV work solved everything. I also solved my lifter tick from replacing the oil pickup's o-ring(s) in the pan, a nice 2-for-1 deal.

If you check the Q&A on this, the alternate part only fits the T6 motor. For the moment I have recommended they do the glove test to see if they can defer the repair for a while. If it is ok, then it will need done but down the road so they can spread out the costs.

Repair shop assumed the system was bad because there was oil leaking out of the filler cap. It needs a new seal which was totally worn out and wet so well past replacement. But it still has to be verified on crankcase pressure.

The car is definitely a marginal repair if you pay soemone to do the repairs. I have advised them to try to get more history on the car as one of the pipes has been replaced so maybe the repair has already been done. They also need to find if the trans has ever been serviced as it is half way to the 3 flush! I also felt worse when I walked around the back and saw those 3 letters AWD. It is also past due the Haldex service which we just had done as the pump was failing. That was $1300.

Thanks for the advice. So although the pipe does not necessarily plug up, it does fail in the rubber portions. Also good to know about the upgraded banjo bolt as I had not heard of that.

I think FCP actually has a video on this and this alternative PCV nipple part will fit. I installed this and can verify. That said; that pcv nipple banjo bolt was a total pain in the butt to install.

I know the one you are talking about and even on my P80 V70R it was a total pain to get aligned and threaded without cross threading it. Appreciate the heads up.
