2000 V70 NA - Coil misfire on all cylinders?

Little bit of pcv pressure , moisture condensing under the cover, lack of maintenance ftom 100k mile rated spark plugs…

Nope. I did all that before selling it 40,000km ago. Full pcv service, new Volvo Plugs and coils although one failed at about 25,000km and was replaced by this NAPA version. Almost looked like it leaked something from under the coil head.

Nothing is dry in our climates. Water is always condensing and depositing in stuff under hood. Once it starts , green corrosion spreads fast.

It is called Galvanic corrosion. You need three things for it to form.
1. An electrolyte, water with impurities can form a electrolyte.
2. Pair of electrically dissimilar metals.
3. Electrical current, the source of that is obvious.

The strange thing with all this is it only affected the one coil that my buddy affected. So maybe the NAPA coil materials are different to the OE parts?

Could be. One might be Aluminum to match the head and the other something like steel. Copper / Aluminum is real subject to Galvanic corrosion.

All them Solar Thermal panels that where installed in the 70s where gone in 20 years. Because they where soldering Copper pipes to Aluminum absorber plates.

And Volvo who test their vehicles for cold winter conditions, decided to use aluminum in their suspension systems in the P80 AWD and P2 cars and then use steel bolts to hold in place with no interface. Guess what happens...........!
