My previous comments on how to weld apply to stick welding.
Go to a welding supply store for rod and other supplies. Get them to maybe recommend the rod for your situation. One rod is not perfect for everything. For the metal you posted the ticket earlier, I suggest 5/32 or 1/8 rod maybe 6011 spec. Try about 90 amps.
Stick welding is really hard for sheet metal.

Yeah I already had the mini welder and 7018ac from a few years ago when I was going to do something else... Maybe for the first trailer attempt? When I went back to Antlers Hardware for advice a few weeks ago, they said itd probably be really hard to use the sticks, but that 6011 3/32 starting on lowest setting would be optimal. A heavier duty needs to be used on the 2x2 and 2x3 tubing correct? Isnt 7018ac stronger than 6011? The tongue needs to be done right the first time.

metal to be used:
tongue: 3x2 3/16 (6.25 gauge?)
interior structure: 2x2 14ga
wall: 16ga

Update

I have added the beginning of the fabrication to my schedule for Monday and Tuesday. No there wont be any welding during those two days. I need to check if I can shove either the 2x2 or 2x3 tubing into the factory side rails for rigidity. If so, I need to start with chalk on the driveway for a life-sized tongue. I need to measure, trace, and cut the 2x3 for the tongue and the 2x2 for the wall.

Something I considered about the 12"x24" window is that if the window is a complete 12", I need to leave 12.5" of space between the top and middle 2x2 for the sheet metal to fold and window sealant to be applied for flexibility.

If you need anything beyond straight parts and square ends, make cardboard mock ups of the parts to check fit. Much easier to make and change cardboard instead of steel.
Unless you have CAD design software and the full CAD details of the car. LOL

cad is a great idea. im not proficient in 3d modeling but ill look into that thank you.

btw did you see the post i made in the wdydtyvt thread a week or two ago? 850 door cards. Special edition, rare.

Update

This morning I finally got around to doing some basic cutting of the metal that I've been measuring and tracing.

I also am rethinking the wheel situation. I have those Ariane wheels which are 15" but my goal was to get what I think are Nova, the ones I've posted before and the same one I posted a WTB for in Classified section. All of the junk yards on car-part .com doesn't have them in stock. I think I'll either keep the Ariane or buy the 16" Regulus or 16" Miram. This is supposed to be a premium build though, so I'm considering buying some Mirams after the build if I can find them.

more metal cutting.

You know what's crazy? I hate the heat and yet I was too lazy to get that started a few months ago. It's pretty typical of how I do things including car part installations and all that. I don't want to do it when it's hot but I'm too lazy to do it right away so I end up doing it when it's hot.

My friend is literally ready to weld all of this stuff together on my trailer next week. So I got to get all this done. Plus I have to sand and prime.

Tomorrow I should have a major tongue fabrication update. Possibly with a rough put-together.
