The only Matra I know about is this screaming V12 that won Le Mans in 1972 after the Porsche 917 was knocked out by rule changes.
No more 5 liters, so no Porsche 917 flat 12, no Ford 289 V8's. The new rule was 3 liters, which meant a lot of the engines were essentially Formula 1 engines > > > Matra 3L V12.

René Bonnet Djet, later production continued by Matra.
The prototype finished 17th overall at Le Mans '62.

Blackbart is spot on with the 1952 bid!

This may help:

This was the hardest one to date, so well done all you guys that set these challenges. It is not often I get stumped, but I have to say that I do not recognize the car at all. It is harder still that there are no obvious logos on the car.

Neil.

Fabbrica Italiana Automobili Torino 8V (or "Otto Vu"), not a commercial success at something like 115 made '52-54. 2000cc (!) V8

Oh I used to have a little book on the Fiat 8V! Some of them were really beautiful, some of them were very tiny. And I think not a lot of them were the same shape or design. The Zagato ones were pretty cool. I thought I read Fiat thought "V8" belonged to Ford because they put the little chrome emblem on their cars. So Fiat called it an 8V.

Good quiz, Neil is right!

Here's a good video of the 8V Zagato with their trademark "double bubble" roof, but the best part is you can hear how it sounded. Higher pitched, but still a pushrod V8, pretty great.
