Oil Pan Job... How bad?

Pdf is from VADIS. Can be purchased from ebay for about $10. I read a post once that said its available by bit torrent as well.

I would definitely do it myself as well. You are one of the few mechanics you can trust to do it right. I have also found many a hidden issue over the years when doing my own work. I recently found a bad lower rad hose that should have given me at least 3 more years of service. I also got a chance to start using Gates Powergrip SB clamps. They are great.

ok, i sprayed on some engine degreaser and wiped it off with some paper towels, and took some pictures. I might not have been as thorough cleaning as i should have been, and i am not sure if the pictures are clear enough to see, so these are the "cleaned" pics, but i can see now i didn't get all the oil off...

the front side of the pan, towards the radiator, i think that orange gunky stuff is the chemical gasket that is also coming out the other side, but no oil on this side

ok, these pics are after i drove it around for like 5 minutes...

so does it look like its coming from the oil pan gasket?

Looks like it might be the turbo oil return o ring. Can you inspect the oil line that comes from the turbo and then goes into the engine block. See if it has oil dripping from that pipe. Very common failure.

Let us know and take a pic if you can.

Sure - I tried to last night but the site was not working. The seals that are suspect are parts 25 and 26. The go from the turbo to the middle of the backside of the motor.

It is most likely "this" pipe from your pictures. You can see this one is covered with something.

A small mirror can help you inspect it easier.
If you try to inspect it while eating a burrito you will get some oil in it.
Don't ask -I'm not even sure who brought the burritos. Other than the oily part they were delicious.

This seal goes bad on its own as well as being moved out of place due to a clogged PCV/Flametrap. Make sure to check for crankcase pressure before replacing any seals as you may have to replace your flametrap.

If you are new to flametrap issues then do a search in the search box to the right of "Volvo Parts" on the top of the screen. Basically, low quality oil residue plugs up a screen in your intake or a black recovery bottle under your manifold and causes back pressure in the crankcase. If you see puffs of air coming out of your dipstick tube then you should be concerned. I put a thin rubber glove over the oil filler hole (cap off) and see if it inflates (bad) or gets sucked in (good/normal).

You must inspect parts 25 and 26 as they both go bad.

ok, so you are saying that i test the flame trap by the glove method, if it works i'll only have to replace parts 25 and 26 in the diagram, otherwise i'll also have to replace the flame trap?
