Driving it 20 miles to get welded (not sure how successful that will be on the twisting of the bar, but hopefully!) will likely break it completely. Running with it disconnected is not ideal but not terrible for a short time.

hi neil yes thats what i did though to be honest you could not tell any difference driving her!i did the 22 miles to the garage sedately though just incase but thank my lucky stars it welded up lovely and is good as ever now, brake shoes came today and look correct so thats this weeks job weather permitting of course, also found out that my usual go to for car paintwork has retired which is a bummer.
the jokers around here i would never trust to do the job properly having seen some of there work close up there far to keen on filler where there should be steel! so i am going to do it myself and it means a lot of work as my old mad aunty has a large but dirty and broken down garage with a working compressor but to get a space clean enough for a decent job means making a spray booth and of course i will need tools, this will be a summer project and im looking for a cheap run around car i can use then sell for a small profit as theres good money in small petrol cars again now. the drive to the hospital around 25 miles away is on some real worn out roads lots of potholes and lumps and bumps but the car is very much smoother now all the d links and axle bushes have been done, thankfully the shocks and springs were new in 2015 so all is good except the front subframe mounts look a bit rough but they can wait!cheers

Finding good paint and body people is a nightmare. Every time I find one the good people leave and set up their own shops but you have no idea where. We used to have a good repair shop at a local Ford body shop. Again the good guys left. They still do an ok job but colour matching leaves a bit to be desired. They used to do an excellent job.

some pics i took today, showing my nice clean engine with zero oil leaks! and the handbrake mechanism i rebuilt now perfect!
you can see the start of this side also delaminating,i remember when brake shoes had rivets the lining rarely detached but on the bad side was when the rivets hit the brake drum, boy they do make a mess of it! but surely in this day and age we should be able to come up with a glue that stays working?there was loads of lining left just no longer attatched! the trick with shoes is filling them leading and trailing edges something not done anymore but should be by manufacturer in my opinion as it helps longevity and bedding in.
just got to wait for rear brake pads and fitting kit and i think i am done with the brakes :D cheers all

hi all well just as i was thinking i had finished with the major jobs on the 850 i fitted new rear brake pads took it for a spin and when i got back the drivers side rear brakes very hot and binding its def not the handbrake shoes too tight and the caliper piston seems to move ok,then i went and got me glasses and then can clearly see a crack in the disc at the exact point the binding starts,so warped and cracked would this make it hot? ive ordered new discs and just pray the caliper is not buggered from the heat!def not leaking and rubber cover intact, cant see a make on it but it has 2 pistons and all the ones on ebay etc have a single piston?is early very different?
