The latch seems to have updated itself to sense temperature and not latch below approximately 70 F. I should check this out before it gets colder or at least get it latched while it is warm tomorrow.

When I bought my S60 the previous owner told me the trunk didn't latch, and didn't the entire time they owned it. When I got it home I whacked it really hard, one time on the flat side, with a pair of pliers, it made an electrical sound right afterwards. It's latched just fine ever since then with no problems (knock on wood).

It may not fix yours, or even be a permanent fix for mine, but it might be worth giving it a nice solid whack to see if it helps.

Put a very little amount of Vaseline on the seal and the ear where the ring slides into place on the sensor and it snapped right into place.

Son and I had trouble with the C30 Headlight Bulb Igniter going back on after bending some of the tabs. Used some silicone grease on the plastic contact surfaces and it just came together. Would not recommend Vaseline on the car as it may become sticky due to the heat whereas silicone can withstand both moisture, heat and still keep it's properties.

We also put a thin film on all the weather stripping of the doors and hatch on all our cars so they won't freeze. Great product for all kinds of use including gaskets in plumbing, shoes or anything that requires moisture repelling and or lubrication.

So...now you have a serious dent in your trunk lid....? Or am I reading that wrong?

I whacked the electronic latch mechanism itself from the interior side with the trunk open. No dents anywhere. I'll try to post a pic tomorrow of what I mean, to help clear things up. Sometimes I have trouble saying what it is that I actually mean, no matter how many times I try to rewrite it or even while talking to someone on the phone or face to face.

On a V70R compression test, the 4th cylinder is reading at 80psi...the rest of them are okay. Car has 110K miles and no lack of power. Is this of concern? Also, what could cause the advance mode on the 4-C system to pulsate while driving?

Thank you.

Decades, or lifetimes ago, when I was a mechanic, we would perform a wet and dry test. One test was done on a cylinder with the spark plug removed, a dry test, and the other with the plug removed and oil added to the cylinder just prior to the test. The later was a wet test.
The purpose was to determine, in a rough way, if the rings were worn.
The pressure of each cylinder is recorded with a dry test.
Then each cylinder is tested with just enough oil squirted into the cylinder to help seal the rings.
If the pressure difference between each cylinder with each test was more than 20%, that was an indication that the rings needed to be replaced.

This is the side of the latch I whacked/smacked, with the trunk open, on the interior side that would be facing the back seat when the trunk is closed. No dents/damage. I may have hit it a few times until I heard an electrical sound (the same sound it makes when unlocking it with the key fob).

I adjusted the latch catch plate for the rear hatch on my 2001 V70 T5. It had become hard to latch when it was cold. I think the wear on the latch and the hardening of the aging bumpers caused the problem. If this works, I have photos and will report on the process.
