You are all so busy doing cool things, making me feel so inferior... so... I put new wiper blades on my 98 V70 today.

Don’t forget the back one!

If you cut a Volvo V70 wiper blade in two, it will fit a rear BMW X83 arm nicely

Actually, when I picked up the wipers I also got some stuff like Liquid Wrench and brake cleaner... If I can break everything loose on the rear brakes I'll be ordering caliper, pads, rotors and stuff to do the rear brakes.

Not a good day. Sometime in the past couple months the clamp fell off the left side outer axle boot, spraying grease everywhere. The level in the coolant bottle has gone from max to min in the last 500 miles. Can't find a leak anywhere. And I have identified my steering rack as SMI based on the hex nut, despite the number plate seeming to indicate my car was built before SMI racks were introduced. Looks like I'm returning my TRW tie rods.

On the bright side, my oil consumption seems to be almost gone now.

Cleaned up the engine bay today in the R. Not perfect by any means, but it's MUCH better than it was! It had (and somewhat still has) a nasty baked on layer of grease that has a faint smell of a garbage truck. No idea how it got there, but this car was simply driven before I got it... the owner before the previous owner thought he was doing some good to it with some iPd sway bar links and some other things here and there, but he really didn't do much.

I need to order a radiator and heater hoses now since I discovered they're leaking. Maybe one day this will be on the road... it kills me how long this car has taken to get roadworthy.

That's a handsome looking engine bay. What cleaner did you use? I keep thinking of doing this to our V70s, but it keeps falling on the priority list!

Yesterday, I managed to liberate the back seats from the '99 V70 XC. At first, it seemed impossible when the left side wouldn't even budge when pulling on it by hand or trying to lever it with a crowbar. I gave the larger, right side a few tugs, and it popped right up, then the right side followed relatively easy.

Now, to get the seats out of the '00 V70 MT so I can shuttle our kids in the third row! The '00 has been a pain, and, again, the rear seat backs are not budging.

What brand of wiperblades do you guys prefer? I'm not a big fan of Valeo blades. They're rather expensive and they wore out a lot faster than the Bosch wipers. If I go further back in my memory, I also tried out SWF blades. They were horrible. They made a lot of sound, too much in my opinion. I also used Coldax and Champion in the past. Quiet for the first three to four months, than they made a lot of noise (and yes, my windows are clean and free of debris). The Bosch ones are pretty good. How good are the Volvo blades?

Why thank you! I used original Gunk Engine Brite (the nasty smelling petroleum-based stuff), let it sit for 5 minutes or so, then followed with some regular water-based degreaser (Turtle Wax MAX Power, in this case) and agitated with with a round tip parts cleaning brush. This is the first time I've been this thorough, mainly because previously I never had a smaller parts cleaning brush on hand besides an old tooth brush when I decided to do this.
Then I just rinsed it off with the hose. Usually I'll use a lower pressure pressure washer, but I didn't feel like digging it out of the shed. I still need to do some areas underneath (the AC compressor is caked in oil from a leaky oil filter cartridge... somebody thought it would be a good idea to double up o-rings on the wrong groove  ) but other than that, the top is much better. I think I'm just going to replace the fuse box and ECU box covers, then give the air box a good scrubbing outside of the car. That nasty film isn't going to come off without a fight!

Otherwise I'm really happy with how it turned out though!
