Rolled my 2005 200 miles to pick up my Smith College young lady for spring break. 33 mpg on 93 octane.

Your '05 is a manual, no?

People often warn against buying "higher octane than necessary" gas because no increase in mileage will result.
I believe "rolling hills" and such make the ECM do some math.
The ability of the spark to advance effectively is limited by lower octane fuel.
No science other than my mileage calculations is involved.

Why the new MVS "homepage"?

Both my bricks are sticks, yes.

I’ve never seen a difference between 87,91,93 unless I use the ethanol free when I get a slight bump.

The NA is higher compression than the T5 so I tend to run higher octane in that

If anything a turbocharged car should be able to take better advantage of higher octane fuel.

Replaced the engine mount on the RH side due to vibration at a stop or when turning left. It was covered in grease due to the CV boot busting a few weeks ago (CV axle was replaced last week with a Dearborn Axle rebuild.) Not sure if that degraded the rubber or not, but it was completely torn up and the engine side of the mount was riding on the subframe. Found the metal to be completely separated from the isolating rubber. During removal, found both mount-to-subframe bolts finger loose. Cleaned it all up and installed new Hutchinson mount from ipd. Applied thread locker to all four mounting bolts.

Had a deteriorating inner joint boot on the driver’s side axle so decided to replace the inner and outer CV boots. Not a job I like to do because of the greasy mess but didn’t want to give up the original axle. The boot rubber had deep cracks in it but hadn’t ripped completely through yet. The passenger side axle had already been replaced so those boots are still in good shape.

Purchased a Rein kit with both boots and clamps, which is a very good kit for the price. The job was pretty straight forward except the inner joint tripod bearings wouldn’t pull out of the housing because the ends of the bearing channels in the housing were staked; haven’t seen this before. Had to use a Dremel tool and small grinding wheel to grind down the small protrusions.

The outer CV joint popped off easily with a brass hammer blow. The driver’s side axle has the rubber damper ring in the middle of the axle and this made things a little more of a hassle but not too bad, just worked around it. New boots and grease replaced for less $35 and I used Redline CV2 grease instead of the grease in the kit.

I hung a strong magnet in my power steering reservoir.
If I find some ferrous screen I'll incorporate it to increase catch sites.

If you can get it near the fuel line you'll increase mileage , too. It's on the internet.

Everyone knows magnetic gas burns cleaner.
