Although I gotta say, Fedex has been awful about that lately. They've made a habit of delivering my packages to neighbors' houses.

Cracked off the power steering hard lines and undid the coupler inside the cabin to prep for dropping the rack, new rack is in garage ready to go, bought new tie rod ends too.

17 and 19mm fittings with obstructions from the hard lines. It was touch access with the subframe dropped, I can’t imagine how you do this with the rack in place on the subframe mounted up

Well, after power steering rack Tetris , it's off

I pulled the M8/13mm bolt on the interior steering column as the splines were stuck tight. EZPz

The hard lines cracked but the return line bolt stick and badly rounded off. I left it on and then removed the rear Motor mount to get more room

I had both front subframe bolts loose and the rear ones removed. I had a good 8 inches subframe drop

Agreed but you got there which is a major achievement considering what you are working with and the temperatures you have been seeing. Glad I get to work inside this week replacing the Toyota's LHF axle boots. Weird it seems to be the inner ones that split more often than the outers on this vehicle. Used to the P80 outers mostly blowing on my cars!

Hope you have a spare pressure line in your stash!

The second I rounded off the first flat on the soft alloy line, I stopped , and ordered a new one at FCP. Heat and PBB got it moving but it stuck after about one full turn and then hung.

There is so much hard Labour to get access to the rack, it was an easy 4 hour x$25 =$100 part decision.

Temp today was 40-45F, very comfortable with my winter blood in.

I never rounded one with a Flare Nut Wrench.

Put the Flare Nut Wrench on the nut then tap the end with a rubber mallet till it breaks loose. The tapping is low tech impact wrenching.

Paying attention in high school physics classes pays off.

Flare nut wrenches are always ideal. I always get a little nervous every time I put a wrench on one of those lines... too easy to round them out!

According to my car, it hit 81 today. Supposed to be low 60s tomorrow, but nasty and rainy again. I wonder if I can send some warm weather with my next shipment of used motor oil to you...

I was paying attention to the wrong things in high school

I’ll get it off today and see how nasty the threads are

One cheap approach to the return line , you can cut the alloy with a wheel and then plumb in a double clamped piece of oil compatible oil line to bridge the hole in an easily inspectable place, there is minimal pressure on that line

Did that on transmission cooler lines on my cousin's Durango, working great close to a year later! We used high pressure transmission fluid-specific hose from NAPA. I believe it was Gates brand.
