What did you do to your P2 Volvo today?
Re: What did you do to your P2 Volvo today?
What did I do.. hmm. Well the suspension on my R wagon was crap. So boys and girls I ordered some used / good strut assemblies from Erie Vo-Vo for the front... I just got new shocks from Rockauto.88$ each There's no listing for that model so I put in 2003 S60 AWD. Also, new contol arm assemblies, 2 ball joints.. 2 new front hub bearing assemblies. Rockauto.. rocks. For all the purists out there.. pay more if you want... not me.

Last night, my S60 started OK, but stalled when I changed gear from reverse to 1st. Started it again and the engine was hunting trying to settle down at idle-speed. As I drove home it stalled as I stopped at lights. Some time later I got the "REDUCED PERFORMANCE" message.
When I got home I checked with an OBD2 scanner and got a P1238 code, Turbo Control Valve problem. The word on the Internet is this is usually the hoses around the TCV. This morning I had a look around the engine. Just to be sure, I measured the resistance across the contacts (got 20-ish Ohm.) I went about checking the rubber hoses around the TCV, disconnecting them and blowing/sucking to check for leaks. I found a 3-inch split in a badly perished hose under the manifold that ran to the MAP sensor. 30-min of fighting vacuum hoses later it was fixed and the code cleared.

I had to take the alternator out to replace the pulley which didn’t go well. Pulley bolt is stripped, so someone previous to me tried. It needs to be replaced anyway as I found my squeak that showed up when I put a new serpentine belt on a few months ago and the bearing inside of it is making a noise as well. Anyway while it’s out I replaced the banjo bolt with the most current version (pics) and replaced the thermostat temp sensor assembly as I had a new one in a box just waiting. I’ll button everything up when I get my new alternator. The banjo bolt was real easy to get to with the alternator dismounted and moved to the side, so you don’t have to take it completely out if you want to change yours for piece of mind.

I wish I would have read all these damn banjo bolt threads prior to doing my alternator a month ago.. lol
Today I replaced spark plugs with NGK Iridium, still hunting my dropping idle issue. Also changed my TCV and my cabin air filter.
Ordered a vacuum pump and MAF today from Rockauto, and ordered a power steering pressure hose, orings, and some bumper clips from the dealer.

MDK here..well..2 new front hubs bearings on my 2004 V70R I got from rockauto I chose the mevotech brand. They're manufactured in Canada and got a pretty good rating ..50$ each. Also replaced the steering angle sensor that I got from Erie vo-vo. It came with a life time warranty. Then Monday I put a set of Barum tires I got from discount tire.

So, some funny stuff. I got my used 88k alternator in and was going to put the new pulley on it and well… I stripped the center bolt. Hmm Well, that’s when I found out that I only had half of the special tools required. Along with the decoupler socket, which I had, you need a 10mm triple square spline bit. I used a torx. Now I know how the previous owner stripped out the alternator that was on my car. I guess I have around 100k miles to get my game together. Along with that, I disconnected my battery like a good boy and CLOSED MY TRUNK.
So I think, oh I’ll just use my key. I popped the cap off inserted my key and it just spun in a circle. I’m like man you can’t make this sh*t up. What are the chances… Murphy…. 100% LOL Anyway went through the ski door with a metal hanger (glad I still have a few) and popped the latch. Add one more thing to my to do list….

The accountant who removed key openings on doors and trunks is awaiting a Sisphysian task of reconciling books with transposition errors for eternity, at the Pearly Gates. The errors will be Placed in non adjacent columns so the rule of nines won’t work.

Rear Meyle shocks w/ mounts from FCP on clearance and summer sale discount. Install went smooth. I easily installed the mounts myself by taking the long lower shock bolt and putting it through the center of the mount threads up. I put those together inside the spring area. With one hand lifted it up while reaching through the hole in the trunk grabbing the threaded part of the bolt with the other hand. Pulled it up, then I was working with both hands to align and put the mounting bolts in. When I was finished w/ the lower bolt, I just let it drop back through and out.
