Holy Batmobile, Robbin ! Somebody had way lots of time on their hands...or way lots of single malt. The drivetrain swap is one thing, but having been involved in a top-chop on an old pickup, there isn't any substitute for hours, and patience, and skill...and in our case, Bourbon. Took a really long time.

I like the power delivery and smoothness of our T6 but think the T5's might be easier to work on from the 98 S70 T5 we used to own. Any thoughts on this one or too many things to deal with? Do all wagons have Nivomats and I've come across some spring breakages on these in the forums.

Nivomats were an option on I think only 03-07 for XC70s. Bottom line, most of these wagons do not have nivomats. Some have 4C, too, also was an option.

Looks like a really nice one, well priced if the AWD works.

2005 is a good year too, ‘05-‘07 are the ones to look for. By 2005, most all of the kinks were worked out on the P2s.

Agreed. We have an 06 and so far has not been too bad other than OE brake rotor warpage. Now using Brembos and Akebono pads. So far so good and no loss in braking quality but a lot less dust!

Check if it has 4C adjustable shocks. If so be ready to fork out for replacements. Prices have come down and you can now buy OEM Munro 4C shocks. On the XC they give 2 levels of firmness. I don't thik we have ever change the setting. You can tell if fitted by a button usually on the left of the lower row under the radio which says '4C'. I like the car for the most part. Only the seats for my big ass is not as comfortable as a P80. Price is fair if service history has been done. Check if 'optional' service has been done on the AWD system (Haldex). If not budget about $1500 CDN (not sure US) at dealer prices to do. Also check if the trans and angle gear have ever been serviced.

As for coil spring breakage. We had one on the rear of the XC. Fronts are worse. The ones I have heard of break seem to be the badly rusted ones. However, might be worth swapping springs if you ever have to replace the shocks.
