If it’s running well, Just keep running it paying attention to the beast on coolant and oil. Keep your foot light and use the gas money saved for the next step

It’s doesn’t really matter if it’s rings or valves, top of the engine comes off to sort out.

I’ve run many low compression cars as daily drivers around town before I dealt with them. My T5 is running135 psi currently, although my compression gauge is an old POS so the absolutes reading is unverified

It is worth repeating compression after a short run at 4000 rpm (55 mph In 3rd)

Got about 110 on cylinder 4. Increased to about 130 when wet.

Now what? :\
Do a Seafoam soak. It might just be sticky rings due to carbon buildup.

Hi,

What is a "Seafoam soak" ?
Just wondering i've never heard of that before.

Last thing i did on my car was reinstall the front grill as it came off. I used an unconventional method though to remount it, using 6-32 bolts and fender washers.
I’ve been driving a Volvo long before anyone ever paid me to drive one.
That's probably because I've been driving one since 2015 and nobody has offered to pay me yet.

Thank you for the response, and I hope you are right!

I was watching a Robert Spinner video (Robert DIY), where he recommends trying something less "aggressive" first, like Lucas Oil. So I may go that route.

It would be nice if it's just a stuck ring vs. a burnt valve (I hear those are quite common). FWIW, the Haynes manual says that if the pressure goes up after adding oil, then it's probably a piston ring issue. Mine went up 20 PSI after adding oil.

You have to compare adding oil against all cylinders when doing a wet test. If every cylinder increases by 20 PSI, that can point to valves instead of rings (being source of substantial low compression, not saying rings are in good shape either), versus all cylinders increase by 10PSI, and one goes up by 50PSI.

At least your cat presents the catch whole! One of my dogs in the past was a Rhodesian ridge back who after years of squirrel chasing finally caught it. (It teased her for years) Well she carried it in, played, and ate it unbeknown to me. My white living room carpet looked like a scene out of a brutal murder! I didn't think a squirrel had that much blood and guts!!! Between her and the lab they had fun until I caught them and my kids to this day laugh about it... Thinking about it now I laugh now too. Hi,

I put acorn nuts on the bolts that now hold my front grill on the other day, and you can see the pics in that thread right here on this forum, but what i realized today was that i was on the road with this Volvo now for 4 years coming next month. The time flew by.

Had to get a new battery too though last month ran about 200 bucks. Interstate brand battery.
I’ve been driving a Volvo long before anyone ever paid me to drive one.

Wow, good catch!

My cat tried to play with a baby rabbit a while back, but he didn't seem to realize that the rabbit didn't want to be his friend. He was sad when he realized it wasn't moving anymore...
