New quick struts went in this morning. What a difference.

Here's a not so flattering picture of me working on Herman

Tomorrow it's brake pads and brake lines. Sunday it's that pesky thermostat.

Bought a fresh can of bolt blaster for the thermostat occasion.

I went with the Sachs: Volvo Quick Strut Assembly - Sachs SAC-033080

They are the made in turkey ones. I think they might be the cheaper struts but I genuinely don't care. Anything is better than 100k mile struts with 350k mile springs and assemblies. Hahaha.

Drove around on them this morning. I forgot that Volvo's don't normally knock, creak and groan. It was like driving butter over hot toast.

Now my exhaust rattle is really annoying. The rear tail pipe mounting points by the exhaust tip rusted off. Might be a good excuse to buy a Sachs exhaust. basically the pipe now rubs against the rear left spring. I'm thinking I can use some wire in combination with zip ties to rig a temporary support. Really should have taken that welding class in college.

Nice. I've been waiting and saving money to just redo the entire suspension in one go. I was planning on lemfordor control arms, Sachs quick struts, any bushings I can get my hands on and I'm considering upgrading to the IPD overload rear springs.

I did the control arms a few months back, new sway bar ends links, poly upper and lower torque mounts. Totally worth it.

I'd love to get upgraded sway bars on my next go around. But for now I'm going to enjoy not noticing bumps in the road.

I did struts myself in the shop garage on the weekend. I rented a spring compressor instead of going with quick struts. It's not so bad if you have one other person there to help you and an impact driver. I did it by myself in the evenings and it took 2 grueling days. Quick struts should be an easy afternoon job.

How are those Snabb shifter bushings doing? Really need to replace mine and not sure if I want to go OE, DIY, or get the all metal style ones. Did you grease them when you installed?

I rebuilt the strut assemblies last time I did the job. This time the spring and spring seats, bushings etc were just totally toast. It was cheaper to buy the prebuilt assemblies than put it together peice-meal. Plus no having to use a spring compressor which scares the living hell out of me. Haha.

Shifter bushings are good. I like them a lot. A cable shifter is never going to be as crisp as a mechanical linkage, but it's definitely better. Because there's no rubber you can tell when the gear is in place. I didn't need to grease them I used some channel locks to pop out the old bushings and then they just slipped straight in. FCP Euro has the short shift kits which include the steel bushings on sale for $52. I had found the bushings on eBay for $13 but the seller was "on vacation" and never responded to emails. So the whole snabb kit it was. :-)

I've really got to look at my timing tomorrow I have almost 0 low end torque and with the drives I've been doing lately it's getting dangerous to pull out into traffic. Yikes
