Used car prices in the future: up or down in a year?

20 years ago when we moved from the UK to Canada, I sold my Porsche 928 S4 for around 11,000 UK pounds with 70k miles on it and in overall it was in great condition and new rims and tires. Today that car would sell in the region of 35-40k UK pounds!!

Almost bought an early De Tomaso Pantera in immaculate condition but just could not get into it. Again in the same price range and now well over 50k UK pounds and many are over 100k!

On the other side I paid $6000 CDN for my 00 V70R in 2012, put 15,000km on it (now around 170k miles) and spent hundreds of hours and well over $20k in parts and repairs and it is still lucky if it would sell for what I paid for it. Great car when it is problem free and my wife now drives it and loves it. Would I buy another one. Not a chance, same goes for a S1 S80 unless possibly a late 2.5T, an 01-03 P2, P2 'R' S1 XC90 T6 and a few other clunkers Volvo has made more recently like first gen XC60's.

Come to think of it there is no Volvo made since the end of the P2's I would consider buying, which for me is staggering having been a Volvo owner and enthusiast for over 45 years! Fuel consumption is no improving again finally on Volvo's but can't get my head around that other than maybe an XC90 I can't get a set of golf clubs in the trunk unless the rear seat is down. Certainly could not get 4 sets in there!
