2001 V70 2.4T Blower fan stopped working Topic is solved

I have run a TYC fan in the wife’s XC for nearly 4 years now. A possible good cheap alternative to Behr/Volvo.

Anyone know how to parse the dates on the part numbers in the photos above? The fan seems to say 08 11 01 which would be November 8 11 2001 in European format or August 11 2001 in American. The resistor has an 011012, which seems like a date of either October 1 2012 or January 1 2012. Or October 12 2001 if it’s in YMD format. I have a vague feeling that I’ve replaced the resistor at some point, so January 1 2012 would make sense in that case.

For a price. Granted, the TYC was certainly an improvement over the prior blower which sounded like a cricket was bring tortured,

FCP has the Mahle-Behr blower motor for $183.49. RockAuto has the TYC for $97.79, also has Four Seasons brand for $90.79, and VDO/Continental for $108.79.

Trying to decide if the sound on the TYC is bad enough to spend an extra $100-ish on the Mahle-Behr, or if one of the other brands I mentioned would be good as well. I have hearing loss in the higher ranges at lower decibels, so if the TYC sound is high-range/low-decibel I might be able to live with it!

Ouch. I guess if it quits just replace both. 130,000 mi, I'm about due. He makes some random squeaks / shrieking until the system warms up in the winter.

Hi folks, just to let you know the resolution - I ended up replacing just the blower motor with the TYC model and it is working great! Kept the old resistor (which, as I mentioned above, looks like it may have been replaced more recently). I do notice a slight whine when the fan is blowing at maximum, but it's not that bad. Thanks again for all the advice!
