Everything is good there. Those two open hoses are cowl drains for the hood. The nipple is the coolant system bleed air valve or drain, very few people know about or mess with it ,they just drain coolant from a radiator hose. It’s a really high quality brass fitting, I’ve never had trouble getting them loose with 28 seconds of propane heat, firsttjmartin317 wrote: ↑12 Mar 2024, 10:12 New photos for you Neil of the rear bushing:

Feels SUPER crusty at the top. I’m guessing a new one will help get the engine raised a little and back into place?
Also discovered that a previous owner, at some point, disconnected some hoses and took emissions into their own hands:

Looks like something is supposed to be plugged into that nipple there, but oh well.

Okay... things are looking very very bleak...
Let's start with the good. The Volvo has five wonderful shiny new motor mounts. That's peachy! But this didn't solve the problem. The thing still refuses to shift into 2nd, 4th, or reverse. And after having a friend shift for a while so I could watch, I realized it that towards the firewall, one of the cables seemed about sheered in half internally, bending a lot on certain shifts. Furthermore, there's a little hole where (I'd imagine) a bracket would be... but there is no bracket in sight.
The ziptie was added by me, in an attempt to create structure. And they were fed through the hole that I feel a bracket would/could/should be. But the cables are still corroding, with bits of the outer rubber peeling off.
This isn't great, because from what I can gather these shift linkages are made of unobtainium.
But it gets better. Because we had a little mishap while attempting to remove the original front motor mount. In order to squeeze it through everything, we removed one of the ground cable to the engine... this meant disconnecting the battery (which we didn't do originally, so what happened first was we saw some sparks fly around... and then we disconnected the battery).
Unfortunately, that bolt broke. But after a trip to AutoZone we managed to find a new grounding point that we think should have worked (as pictured above. Circled is where the bolt broke)... except now, the ETS light is off, but anytime you touch the throttle the car refuses to stay alive. Almost immediate death unless you're flooring it. This was not the case the last time I ran and drove the car a few days ago, so maybe it's as simple as a reprogramming from Volvo. But it's another expense, and one I'll need to get a tow for because without half my gears and an engine that keeps dying, it's near impossible to drive it. Just getting it in my driveway is a chore.
But I do have new engine mounts, and they look splendid. And I sincerely appreciate the help and guidance I've gotten here. I'm sorry if this particular post is riddled with negativity, it's not out of frustration towards this forum or those on it. It's just been a long day only to take one step forward and two steps back (not to mention this car is becoming a bigger money pit than my 50-year-old VW... which isn't a great feeling for me or my wallet).
So, on my list now is sourcing extremely hard to find cables (or making new ones), and fighting mystery electrical gremlins that appeared out of the blue... literally, because the car's name is Blue... Thanks again folks.

That ground is critical and critical to the ETB. You should be able to get a ground on a new spot to eliminate that problem. The ETB is a computer module that receives CANBUS commands from the ECU through a shielded , twisted pair communication bus. If that isn’t grounded right the comms get scrambled and chaos reigns

Glad to know that problem is easily sorted... your thoughts on the transmission shift cables? You said you had a spare M56... would it happen to come with the linkages and/or you'd be willing to part with those? That's what's really killing me.abscate wrote: ↑17 Mar 2024, 06:13 That ground is critical and critical to the ETB. You should be able to get a ground on a new spot to eliminate that problem. If there aren't any donor candidates in salvage yards in your area, check with Robert; he hits junkyards daily it seems. Text/phonecalls are his preferred methods, although he may get push emails.tjmartin317 wrote: ↑16 Mar 2024, 16:57 Okay... things are looking very very bleak...

My spares are up North in the Den of Thieves and I have a critical patient this week. Move that ground over to the block near the broken screw
I’ve promised one of the cables to Amblerman, maybe the force be with you and have you needing the other

I didn’t realize Robert was a phone call and text guy, I only managed to find an email. Do you all know the number?
Sir abscate, I did send you a PM about those cables. Obviously take care of whatever it is you need to take care of, but I’d love to chat more soon.

He doesn't always list all the parts he has, and he will do a request.tjmartin317 wrote: ↑18 Mar 2024, 19:07 I didn’t realize Robert was a phone call and text guy, I only managed to find an email. Do you all know the number?

It's on his Y/T channel too,

He's on his way to CA at the moment, and keep in mind that he won't answer a call from a blocked number - he has gotten pretty specific about that recently. I usually text him so he can answer on his schedule.
