That is not the consensus I get from "Counter for transmission fluid data" within VIDA. It sums it up to being a counter for times the fluid temp exceeds a temp threshold. It neither states if that temp threshold is within operational standards or not. Only when the counter has reached the maximum value does a DTC trigger, and the DTC is just for an oil change. "When replacing transmission fluid, the counter must be reset to prevent DTC" "This applies when the transmission fluid is changed and when the fluid is changed during a repair".
I'm sure it's better to obviously keep up with fluid changes before you ever get such an alert, but the description isn't specifying it as a warning for trans damage.
