Re: Volvo Term Glossary

Post by nascenta »

I have found this glossary very useful. Thanks for creating it. Three terms to add though, FPM (fuel pump module), FPCM (fuel pump control module) and PEM (pump electronic module). Apparently, is the same thing but given a different name depending on the model.

VVIS - Volvo Variable Induction System.
This applies to the '93 - '94.5 850 intake manifold with a vacuum actuated vane to switch between a long or short runner within the manifold at a set RPM for torque, and/or fuel savings.

Side note: They function better when the actuation order is reversed with a device that fools the electronic vacuum solenoid as to RPM.

STC -Stability and Traction Control. In 1999, with engine torque management handled in software ( Bosch ME7) the earlier TRACS system was upgraded to include AbS control of all four wheels, and torque management for enhanced stability and traction.

I need this glossary badly, just to keep up with the MVS thread banter!

So... clarify please -
I've always said "ECU," in newer Volvos it's a CEM, but....

I take it the ECU still controls specifically engine management, and the CEM is the overall computer managing all the other systems?? Is that accurate?

P80s have ECU or ECM but no CEM. Sometimes the main fuse box is called the CEM but it doesn’t have processors like the P2. Potato, potaato.

P2s have both ECU and ECM for engine management and a CEM Which manages most/ all the other modules
