My Volvo dealer said there was no expiration.

I had looked up my VIN in the Ford site and it said I needed this, but the Volvo dealer said it was done already but there was no expiration.

Well this is news to me, my car is a '95, I wonder if this is why I have occassionally, meaning twice noticed the smell of gas in the right rear of the car. Hmm..now how do I figure this stuff out..jeez.

I'm curious...how did people find out about the recall? Were they sent mail from Ford/Volvo Corp? Or was an owner supposed to discover this on their own, like I did tonight?

I just saw it on this site and checked my VIN on the Ford site. I'm the third owner, so I doubt I would be contacted.

Well I just called Volvo USA, they said there is no expiration date on this recall, particularly because it is fuel tank related.

I was told my car had the necessary parts parts replaced 3 years ago...Yet, only a week ago or so, I'm getting the symptoms that people are describing. Volvo USA said if the dealer inspects it, and determines it's the problem showing up now, that management at the national level would have to authorize a gas tank replacement, that is, authorize a FREE replacement, because the car has already gone through the recall inspection.

Here's an interesting twist. I'm bringing in the car tomorrow to have it inspected regarding the gas fumes I have smelled. Now the Service guy at my local Volvo dealer, said if the problem is related to the recall, they will do what is needed at no cost to me. Quite a bit different story than what Ford/Volvo help line told me this morning. Maybe this guy is not informed, that is maybe Volvo phone guy is right, I would have to get permission to have it fixed for free.

Knowing my luck, it will be something entirely different, and I will be dropping a coupling hundred tomorrow. I hope not. I will keep you posted.

Well I'm sad to say it wasn't the fuel tank, no free repair, it was a fuel line, small crack in it. A few hundred dollars later. OH, and they forgot to put my heat shield back on, WTH!! Back to them tomorrow.

Apparently Volvo will still do this recall. I just had my 97 850 done yesterday. I also found 2 other open recalls: headlight switch and seat heater. They did these as well. The headlight recall was open since 1999!!
