Have you tried a transmission flush with the right fluid and having the software upgrade before dropping the tranny? Unfortunately I don't know enough about these P2's to comment on whether or not a later (later than '02) will actually work on your car or not. JRL seems to know and I would trust his judgment- he knows these cars.

Save your money and hers and replace all engine/tranny mounts.
