You can buy a good AUTEL scanner for about 200 which will read codes for the rest of your life, including ABS and SRS codes

Bcm? I found this on Youtube from a search-
A bit humorous but not so much when you live with this crap and it's ongoing without finding a solution.
Basically, this is an electrical issue- typically a ground wire disconnected or shorting- it might be the BCM or it could be related to grounding somewhere in the system that the BCM is attached to. I would go for another indie repair shop and let them know everything that has been said to you by Volvo but tell them that you don't really suspect it's the BCM, but an electrical grounding/shorting issue instead. See where they take it from there. Btw, I'm not sure if you can just replace a BCM from another car or not- if you can, it's probably typical Volvo stuff that requires it being "married" to your car by way of a software download. However, since you've dealt with XeMODeX already, it might be worth giving them a call and asking them this question.

The brake failure message is telling you codes have been set. These codes don't triggered 'service engine soon' message ( the P2 version of check engine light)

Fixing electrical problems like this is poor workmanship. The fault of lost power has to be traced to root cause or else more trouble is sure to come. A mechanic who can detect a missing voltage then doesn't know how to proceed shouldn't work on these cars, or most any post 1996 car.
