Not really true... from Google
Definition:
I have often been asked this question: Which is the correct past tense of learn – learned or learnt? Well, the answer is simple. Both are correct. Yes, both learned and learnt may be used as the past of learn depending on which form of English you’re using. Learned is used in American English, and learnt in British English. But these days, due to the influence of American English, learned is also being written in Britain. So, in short, both the forms are correct. The only thing to remember is – whichever form you use, be consistent. Don’t use both learned and learnt together.

There’s just one case where only learned is used – whether British or American English. This is when used as an adjective meaning “possessing or demonstrating profound knowledge”. For example, ‘a learned person’ or ‘a learned response’. In this case, learned is pronounced with two syllables – “learn” and “ed”, unlike learned as a verb where it’s just one syllable

So, removing the ECU to do the P0410 diode fix (out about 20 min) should reset it?

The key *should* be in position II on those models when reconnecting the battery again to avoid the possibility of triggering an SRS system fault (which, as we know, means a trip to the dealer). That's really the only special step you need to take.
I replace my Dash pad yesterday with a different air bag. Ofcourse the battery was diconnected. I always reconnect in position II. After starting, I realized I forgot to plug the new airbag in and tripped the SRS light. What were you saying about a trip to the Dealer?

EDIT:Disregard, I have OBD I on my "93 850, and was able to clear the code 2-2-2 on the B5 terminal. No more SRS lamp.
Thanks anyway, my appologies for the non related post.

In the 98 and older cars you just disconnect the battery for a while, correct? I know that's how I have done it. I never considered how I reconnect my battery cables, are there any suggestions for the 850 owners on resetting the ECU and reconnecting the cables? I just want to make sure I have been doing it right and not just getting lucky.

What's the full procedure to reset the ECU on a 99 V70? I only saw bits and pieces in this thread. Is there a checklist somewhere?

I am intrigued about the ECU relearn! I have had a Volvo since I was 16(33 now) and I just "learnt".

On a side note; I have grown up being taught proper English and admittedly cringe when I hear improper variations. Even as an art teacher I have to hold myself back from correcting students grammar that has been integrated in their works(artists statements, proposals, etc are a different matter). Come on, though! This is a forum dedicated to cars(Swedish ones at that!) It is ridiculous how many posts have been solely directed to the word "learnt"! Get over it; correct or incorrect, you know what was meant.

Regardless, my S70 has run less than optimally, not to mention the intermittant electrical malfunctions, sine I puchased it almost three years ago. Whether or not the ECU relearn is effective or not we will see shortly!

Woohoo, changed out the MAF and plug wires today, MAF circuit low and bank 1 rich codes cleared. Ran a lot better than yesterday. But still not like I expected. Went out and ran trim reset procedure a little while ago, now she purrs! Ran so much cleaner at highway speed, exhaust note lighter and smoother, and the throttle response is greatly improved.

Could someone further elaborate on cycling through the gears at half-throttle? I'm wondering if this must be done immediately after warm-up/idling or if I can work in some stop & go driving before doing this. Reaching top gear right out of the driveway, in the middle of a city, might prove difficult (plenty of nearby stop signs) but the highway is nearby. Thoughts?

I drove to a parking lot where I could pull out to a long stretch before first traffic light. No traffic so up to 55 no prob, room to cruise at light throttle too. Worked great. Just take what you need. I took a wrench for the battery cable, and my son to play stopwatch.
