Somewhat off topic, but because we're all having fun...
I knew a kid in jr high and high school. Bad, bad influence on me. His dad was a chemist, and would dust for fingerprints the steering wheel of their late-70s Mazda to see if my friend Constantine had been driving it without permission. True story.
Constantine wrecked a wheel badly one day when he wasn't supposed to be driving and asked me to get involved in a late-night scheme to cover it up, make it look like it was stolen and crashed. I turned him down.

Help keep MVS on the web -> click sponsors' links here on MVS when you buy from them.
Also -> Amazon link. Click that when you go to buy something on Amazon and MVS gets a cut!

Stupid forum didn't take my post yesterday. I'll do it again...
First off, I'm with JRL, nobody wants to steal a Volvo. Most thieves think they all have alarms. They also like to take the easy route. If the car is locked and they think it has an alarm, they wont even try.
Secondly, why don't you know if your car has an alarm??? All you have to do is look in the windshield. If you have the little red light at the base of the dash in the center of the windshield, you have the security system. I use to think they all had it but now I think 80% does. Then it's so easy to test. Roll a window down, lock the car, wait 5 minutes, reach in the car and pull the lock up. If you hear the alram horn honking (if it works, 50% don't), and you see the parking lights flashing, and it won't start, you now know that you DO have the Volvo alarm. If you can get in the car and start it, you DO NOT have the alarm. Now if you do have the alarm, and you can not hear the horn, then you need to fix yours.
As for what I would do... I would simply lock the car and not worry about it. Your car has the same chances of being broken into overnight as it has in 30 days. I would leave the battery hooked up SO THE ALARM WORKS.
If you do decide to pull the fuel pump relay, leave it in the car somewhere. Either under the passenger seat, being the seat in the pouch, or with the spare tire. The last thing you want to do is loose the thing somewhere.
As for the car that was stolen "on the forum", the thief had the keys. They were left in the door for the world to see. When my car was stolen, it was taken, you guessed it, with the keys (Honda Accord). 90% Of cars stolen are taken while someone is running inside for just a minute. When they come out, you got it, it's GONE. Most cars are GONE IN 20 SECONDS. Because the thief has the keys. LOL

Remove the Idle control valve simple job two clips, even if the numpty trying to steal it brings a battery and petrol there is no way they will have an idle control valve.
There is an easier way just upgrade your insurance to fully comprehensive or whatever your top level is then enjoy your holiday and if some numpty has stolen the car get the insurance to pay up and replace it very simple

why are many of you making this so difficult?
if you MUST disable it just pull the damn coil wire, it's the easiest thing to do and trust me a thief (with poor taste mind you) will NOT carry a coil wire with him.
Thives steal 91-94 Accords
Thieves steal 1990-1991 Camrys
Thieves do NOT steal 1994 850s, really they don't.
As was stated, the ONE lone Volvo theft was an S60R with the KEYS LEFT IN IT

I don't know about that few years ago I had a car that was broken into 3 times to try to steal it twice it had no engine injblackburn wrote:Take the battery out. No one's going to bother stealing a car they can't even get to crank.
My dad did that when I was 16 and he didn't want me going off somewhere for the weekend.

Just put a note (as below) on the dash, any thief seeing this note will run away:
"Car not running, timing belt broken, PCV clogged, CV boot torn, RMS leaking, Heater Core caput, brake not working, ignition switch died, battery dead, alternator gone, front strut mount broken, strut bad, need new tires, exhaust leaking, O2 sensors need to be changed, wheel bearings noisy...blah blah blah"...(j/k)...

2005 XC90 2.5T 110K+
2005 XC90 2.5T 110K+
...And you might do all that is suggested here, then you come back to find the car with missing tires, rotors... trim, missing engine parts...who knows, the parts might be worth more than the whole car to the thief your are concerned about

Thanks cn90, I needed a good laugh. The funny thing is most of it is probably true.cn90 wrote:Just put a note (as below) on the dash, any thief seeing this note will run away:
