Try to clean it (NO, I did not mention using alcohol to do so :D ) and the coating came off. Has anyone tried to re-coat the reflective material? White paint was mentioned as providing better reflection but it maybe strange and I do not think it will be legal in NC if I travel out that way for any length of time Thank you.
BKM,

I should have read your post. Replaced the driver side HL lens last night.
With good intention, I clean the reflective surface (chrome looking stuff) with alcohol, assuming it is OK.
Wrong, the reflective coating came off, luckily the damage was small, so I replaced the lens and went to bed!
Looking from outside, it is not too bad (difficult to see the damage done), headlight output is still great.

I wonder how one can spray something to restore it (the reflective surface). Anyone?

This question gets posted about pretty frequently. IMHO there is no way to safely and properly replace the reflective coating. If it gets bad, the headlight must be replaced. Junkyard option or there is an outfit that sells the Volvo branded housings (only way to get the reflector) for a very good price, that has also been posted a fair bit here at MVS. People have been very happy with them.Use your mad search skills, I know you have them, you will find it. :)
