Is the cooling line (from cabin to the engine control module (ECM, or CEM as called above) in good shape?

Heatsink needs to be placed on the flash chip instead. Motorola MCU works fine.
But that will just give you some more time before flash is dead completely.
If you have questions about Volvo firmware ask me. I may know an answer :)

I have had this same problem with my 04 XC70 both on hot days and on long trips (over 2-3 hours). Dropped the CEM down and blasted the heat to diagnose and the problems showed up within ten minutes.

Dealt with this crap for 3 years and have not been able to take the car on long trips which was one of the intentions of buying it. So we sent our CEM out to xeMODex in Canada and they transferred our info to a new one with a bigger heat sink. It was plug and play to the tune of $600. Cheap fix if it worked. Have not had time to do the heat test yet, it has just been about 2 days. I will follow up for sure because I will either be elated or really pissed off.

Hi zerdas,
are you still happy with your solution and is CEM still working flawlessly since installing the heatsink?
I plan to do the same these days - exactly the same symptoms with our V70 MY04.
How did you cut the hole into the EMI-shield? Mine has a solid front, totally hiding (and heating) the chips.

Thank You
