Both--the rear calipers are located at the rear of the rotors so both is correct. Just make sure when installing the half shims that the arrow points up for both pads since they face each other.koffinb wrote:So I am confused as to what I have been reading..should the arrows on the shims be pointing up or the direction of wheel rotation?
I did a full brake job on our S70 a few months ago, but prior to, it was not noisy with the L shaped Volvo shims in there. But just put rotors and pads on the rear of my wagon yesterday. It was screaming with worn down pads and using those full rectangle Teflon shims (which were worn bright naturally). So use the stainless half (L shaped) shims. They are by far the best.
Both cars had Volvo OEM pads, so I can affirm to jreed that the shims make the difference.
Beautiful 855.

Thanks for the feedback... good to know. I will keep on using the stainless steel half-shims the next time I need to replace the rear pads. Thanks again
1997 855 GLT (Light Pressure Turbo) still going strong. Previous: 1986 240 GL rusted out in '06, 1985 Saab 900T rusted out in '95, 1975 Saab 99 rusted out in '95, 1973 Saab 99 rusted out in '94
So yesterday this code came up and I thought it was due to a small exhaust leak I had about 2 inches behind the cat...so I welded it back together and cleared the code. After driving a while the CEL came back on so I went back in to check the specific code and it was the same one again. P0133. Front o2 sensor?

What are some of the most common weak suspension points on these cars? Looking at the records I don't see much in terms of suspension work apart from sway bar links, a control arm and delta anchorage links (whatever those are)

At that age & mileage,
spring seats
strut bearing plates
Struts
shocks
sway bar bushings
ball joints (control arms)
ties rods (inner & outer)
basically, everything
