If you like the person you sold it to, tell him to apply furnace cement on the pinholes in the resonator.
The stuff works.
Follow the directions and this stuff will seal the hole(s) for YEARS!

If your obnoxious comment was referring to mine, the stuff DOES work on split mufflers and or smaller holes and keeps them closed for years
Why do you think it's call FURNACE cement?

The first hole was dead center of the back plate on the resonator. It was rot. So I drilled the rot out (3/8 hole) and screwed a metal plate lined with hi-temp permatex. It did not last more than a few months. The dried permatex just blew out on one side. The best thing to do is cut the resonator out, cut the muffler off the cross pipe, and clamp or weld the muffler direct to the pipe going to the engine. You would then have to swap the side the bumper plug was on. Simple job. The pipes were still perfect, as was the muffler itself. The resonator was the weak link, was also not the same quality steel. Stupid set-up. I can't understand why the North American cars were modified for single exhaust, with resonator and that ugly bumper patch where the second tail pipe should have been. Why couldn't they just give it dual exhaust or mount the single muffler directly? Is there a story behind that???

JRL. You should have bought the car.

Probably, but those were just a few bad weeks around that time it came up for sale...the wrong time for me... just bad timing. If it had been during the past 3-4 weeks I probably would have.
It wasn't meant to be!

As Warren Oates said in the movie Stripes: "lighten up Francis". But that's only if your reply was directed towards my quip "If the Queen had balls, she'd be King".

My comment was directed to the OP who mentions how many times his car should have sold for a higher price if shipping were not an issue. It's quite a common refrain among folks with a background in sales, but I guess you haven't heard that one before.

I hope that the new 19 year old owner will check back periodically also.

You need to quote when you make a comment like that, simplifies things.

I just read these posts.
Why is that a common refrain among sales people? Its news to me. I was in car sales for years. I stated a fact, $2000 freight on a $5000 street car is cost prohibitive. If it were a dime-a-dozen Ford Taurus posted on CL, it would have sold to the first or second local caller, as with previous personal cars I've sold. But I got 10 or 12 calls from all over the country, all ending the same way: Too far or too expensive. In the end it sold locally. I had the exact same experiences selling my supercharged anniversary Thunderbirds. Calls from all over the country. In the end, one stayed on Long Island, the other went to Jersey. I never had an out of state call for my Mom's Ford Escort or any of my work trucks. But they always sell within a few days.

And you're right.
I suppose I should have bought it but it was just the wrong time for me.
Too much crap going on now and in the past 9 months in my life and being a dealer over 5K was just too much to swallow.

Hey Jim, I was thinking about my old car, and wondering what happened to it. You're on these boards constantly. Do you know what happened to this kid? Did he change usernames maybe? The last time he posted here under the name Bagman,, He stated the viscous coupler might be bad. Then nothing, ever again. I knew selling that car to a guy under 30 was the end of the road for that tub.
